The first part of the workshop will focus on the power of digital marketing. You will receive expert tips for posting engaging content on LinkedIn and evaluating your progress.
Our guest presenter is Jo Saunders from Wildfire Social Marketing, an internationally recognised LinkedIn strategist.
She will cover:
- What type of content can work for your brand
- How to create and format content
- How to curate and share content
- The value of repurposing content
- Promotion techniques
- Measuring the performance of your content.
About Jo Saunders
Jo Saunders is an international LinkedIn expert, marketing strategist and social media educator who has been helping people connect since the early 90s.
Known as the LinkedIn Demystifier, Jo guides professionals and organisations through the complexities of LinkedIn and social marketing tools to energise brand presence, establish credibility and earn influence.
She is the co-author of ‘Get Good or Get Off – A guide to getting it right on social media, a host of #LinkedInLocalPerth and video series the #ConnectionCouch and was named #2 LinkedIn Expert in Asia Pacific for 2018.

Part 2: Making the news
All METS companies have news worth publishing. Contract announcements, product launches or new technology – all are stories likely to be of interest to news outlets.
Unfortunately, not all companies have media teams or the ability to outsource to public relations firms. In the absence of specialist assistance, how do you make the news?
Ben Johnson, Managing Director of Team Agency in Perth will help you to achieve “cut-through” and engagement with journalists and industry. During the session, you will work closely with his team to refine your press release and develop and deliver your ‘pitch’ to media.
You will hear:
- what makes an interesting story (and what doesn’t)
- dos and don’ts of working with journalists
- selling your story to the media
- case studies and client wins
- demonstrating value proposition
- how to be current
- how to measure conversion.
You will also hear from veteran mining journalist Ross Louthean, founder of Paydirt media. Ross has a lifetime of experience establishing and writing for mining media.
About Ben Johnson
Ben is the founder and Managing Director of TEAM; a full-service marketing agency dedicated to the mining and METS sector. Ben spent 15 years as global head of marketing for a number of leading METS businesses, including MineARC Systems, Transmin and Minnovare. In 2019 he founded TEAM Agency with a vision to help the wider Australian METS industry by offering a ‘tried and tested’ marketing formula that provides clients with the expertise, knowledge and insights needed to add value and accelerate growth.
Originally from the UK, Ben moved to Australia in 2003. He holds an undergraduate degree in business and a masters degree in marketing.
About Ross Louthean
Ross Louthean began work in the engine room of West Australian newspapers. He has worked for mainstream media such as the ABC and The West Australian as well as many mining publications. While working for Lang Hancock, he launched the National Miner and The Australian Mines Handbook (later the Register of Australian Mining).
Ross established Louthean Media (later Paydirt Media) with Gold Mining Journal and Paydirt magazines and a series of conferences, including the World Diamond Conference. During this time, he co-authored World of Diamonds with international writers Tim Green and David Duval. Eight years later, Ross stepped out to freelance for London’s Mining Journal and Northern Miner and retained a committee and judging role for Diggers & Dealers Forum.
